Died due to accidental fall  downstairs - coroners inquest - 15th October. On death certificate   occupation given as Supervisor of Excise. Donald, his brother,  executor of his will and brother Robert also mentioned in document   indicating/confirming executor.

      At M. William in Achnavast and aged 26 years. In 1881 William was   Foreman in the Pavement Woks at Langland, Thurso - Langland at Hill of   Forss. In 1891 William has middle initial 'J' in his name and this is   most likely Campbell after what would  appear to be his 'favourite'   uncle. He wrote a letter to his uncle James in Canada asking James to   donate money for the purchase of a cow for his uncle William Campbell   Gunn. Chief Foreman at Spittal Pavement Works in 1901.  Alive in 1902.

                              The Robert John Gunn who died in Canada - Death Notice - For over 40   years with the Phoenix Assurance Co., Robert John Gunn, 68, died 25   Willingdon Blvd. Mr. Gunn came to Canada. from Scotland in1907 and   joined the Canadian staff of the Phoenix Co. At the time of his   retirement in 1947 he was superintendent of the guarantee department.   He was a life member of the Toronto Caithness Assoc. and belonged to   Kingsway-Lambton  United Church. He leaves four nieces and two   nephews.

      Free Church Teacher in Halkirk in 1861.  James went to Canada in 1867   and worked with Toronto Railway Company. Returned to Scotland in 1902   and 1910 - stayed at Royal Hotel, Thurso. Died at 133 Isabella   Street,Toronto. Buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. More   detailed information about James in appendix section.

                              Had great interest in railway engineering.  Died at age of 18 years   of typhoid fever contracted at a railway construction camp in   northern Ontario.

                              Graduated Upper Canada College.  Career in picture industry.  Most  of  work involved making copies of films from master film.  Also worked   as a freelance newsreel photographer.  Finally became vice-president   o fthe Northern Motion Picture Laboratory.         Bpt. 12 January 1844. At M. resident 1 Shore Street, Thurso; At M.  2.  resident 2 Rose Street,Thurso.  Unable to find Alexander or his first  wife Christina Hay in the 1881 census - would expect them to be in  Thurso as a child born on 1880 and one in 1882 in Thurso.

                              A family source said that Donald worked  for the Co-op and that he was  killed on the railway in Glasgow. A death certificate for a Donald  Gunn killed in an accident at Larbert Junction suggested he was likely  to be the person in question.  Unfortunately the death certificate did  not have parents' names on it.  The age would have been correct and  other searches did not showup an alternative Donald Gunn to fit the  circumstances and details.  The Donald killed was an married 22 year  old Railway Shunter at Larbert Station.  He died on 22 September 1902  of Fracture and Dislocation of the Cervical Spine.  The death  certificate had a corrected entry and when this was obtained it gave  further details of the accident and gave the parents as Alexander Gunn  and Christina Hay confirming Donald from this Gunn family.  The cause  of death was given as 'Dislocation of the neck by accidentally falling  on his head'.
