This line leads a Melville connection into Ross and McBeath families but has not been researched beyond the earliest stages of the line.

1.  Isabella Melville, b. 1779 (daughter of John Melville [1750 -     ] and Kate Sutherland), buried 1859, d. 30 Jan 1859.

 

     She married George Ross (son of ? Ross), occupation Lotter  Location: Weaver, d. ABT 1823 in Doll, Clyne , Sutherland, Scotland.

     George:  According to survey of Clyne residents in 1849 Isabella Melville took  over her tenancy about 1823 upon the death of her husband.  He had  taken the lot of ground two years earlier and had built a house on it  of dry stones and thatched with divots shortly after entry. This  dwelling being frail a new house was in the process of erection in  1849 (started 1845)  but had not been finished at that time.  The new  house was of stone and clay pointed with lime and thatched with straw.

     Neil:  Tenant. D. Rpt. by son, John.  According to survey of Clyne residents  in 1849 Neil succeeded his father in his lot of land in Doll.  The  land was first tenanted by his father James about 1833.  The house on  the lot was built by the Duchess Countess of Sutherland for James and  Ann McBeath, Neil's parents. The house was built of stone and clay and  pointed with lime and thatched with straw.  In 1849 it was in  'tolerable' repair but the byre and stable were in a ruinous state. At  that time Neil intended rebuilding both and had already got timber  from the proprietor.
