I have designated the line from my earliest known ancestor to myself as the mainline simply as it is the principal line of my research. It does not claim any precedence over other lines except in this interest to myself. I have tried to research many of the connected lines and will reproduce those on this website as information, space and time permit.

1. Alexander Melville , b. ABT 1755 (Most likely the son of William Melven and Ana Sutherland ). B. c1755. Place of birth unknown. Parents probably William Melven and Ana Sutherland. Situation of grave stones and naming evidence suggests this. Very possibly brother of John Melville. Not found in1841 census. Name Melville variously spelt as Melvelle, Melven, Melvin, Melville.

Said to have shared a house with brother Alexander for 20/30 years but they did not speak in all that time. After Alexander's death she moved to Golspie and cut herself off from family. Arranged own funeral and burial separately from rest of family. Said she was not liked by others and was eccentric.

He was with the Newfoundland Forestry Unit, having volunteered in 1940.
Matt was based in Ross-shire and travelled regularly to Golspie to see
Annie before moving to the Newfie camp in Dunrobin Glen later in 1943.

During the war many service personnel were billeted with the family and many kept in touch with Annie and family. It was not unusual for 'long lost' friends from the war time to turn up on her doorstep to introduce their spouses and families to her. She corresponded regularly over the years with a number of those war time colleagues and former guests who had resided in the family house.
Annie was always a sociable person having many visitors, family and friends, to her home. And in her role as unofficial family historian and archivist her knowledge was avidly sought over the years. If you needed to know a birth date or a relationship then Annie was the one to ask. Brothers and sisters were always given a great welcome to her home and those further afield were never forgotten.
